Mochi is a Japanese dessert or snack made from a short-grain, glutinous rice called mochigome. The rice is steamed, pounded into a paste, and then moulded into a desired shape. Mochi is often chewy, smooth, and elastic, and can be flavoured and wrapped around a sweet centre or ice cream.
Mochi is traditionally made by pounding the rice with wooden mallets until it becomes sticky and chewy. The dough can be tinted with green tea powder or other food colourings.
